Romansky’s published description

The best-known account comes from Romansky’s interviews for the 1990 television programme Unsolved Mysteries. Describing the object, he said there were no wings, engines, propellers or conventional aircraft markings. Why the “symbol band” became more famous than the original account

As the Kecksburg incident entered UFO literature, Romansky’s restrained description gradually expanded in popular retellings.

Several changes commonly appeared:

  • The comparison with hieroglyphics became simplified into claims that the object had Egyptian hieroglyphics.
  • Marks confined to a raised band became descriptions of symbols covering much of the craft.

Taken literally, Romansky’s testimony supports only a limited number of conclusions.

It supports that:
